Terms of Service

You may use EmitCI for any lawful purpose related to monitoring and reducing the environmental impact of your CI/CD workflows.

You may not: reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the service · resell, sublicense, or provide access to the service to third parties without our written consent · impose excessive or abusive load on our APIs or infrastructure · attempt to access another customer's data · use the service to build a competing product · submit false or misleading data · share account credentials between multiple individuals (each user must have their own account).

Paid plans are billed in advance, either monthly or annually, via Stripe. All prices are in USD and exclude applicable taxes (VAT, GST, etc.), which will be added at checkout where required.

Monthly plans: billed on the same day each month from the date of subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain full access until then. No refund is issued for the unused portion of the current month.

Annual plans: billed as a single upfront payment. Annual plans are non-refundable except in the case of service discontinuation (see Section 13) or where required by applicable consumer law. Cancellation of an annual plan takes effect at the end of the annual period — you retain full access until then.

ESG Reports: included in the Team plan ($299/mo) and Enterprise at no additional charge. There is no separate ESG add-on billing item.

Overage charges: workflow runs above your plan's included monthly quota are charged at the per-1,000-run rate listed on our Pricing page. Overages are metered via Stripe and appear as a line item on your next invoice. Overages are never charged mid-month.

Failed payments: if a payment fails, we will retry and notify you. After 48 hours of non-payment, run tracking may be limited. After continued non-payment, the account may be suspended.

EmitCI offers a 14-day free tier to new users. No credit card is required. The free tier begins when you install the GitHub App and expires 14 days later.

During the free tier, tracking is limited to 500 workflow runs, 3 public repositories, and 30 days of data retention. Private repositories are not supported on the free tier.

When the free tier expires, dashboard access and run tracking are paused. Your data is preserved. You may upgrade to a paid plan at any time to restore full access immediately. There is no automatic charge at free tier end — you only pay if you choose to upgrade.

Runs beyond the 500 free tier limit are not measured. No overage charges apply during the free tier.

Workflow run data is retained for the following periods based on your active subscription plan:

Free tier: 30 days · Starter: 90 days · Team: 1 year · Enterprise: up to 3 years

Data older than your plan's retention window is permanently deleted by automated sweep. Upgrading to a higher plan does not recover previously deleted data. Downgrading reduces your retention window and may trigger deletion of data outside the new window at the next sweep.

You own your data. You may export or delete it at any time via Settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

To improve our carbon estimation models, EmitCI contributes anonymised, aggregated benchmark data derived from workflow runs (for example: median energy per run for Python test pipelines on 2-core runners). This data does not identify your organisation, repository, or workflow by name. You may opt out at any time in Settings → Advanced → Benchmark sharing.

EmitCI provides energy and carbon emissions estimates, not certified measurements. Estimates are produced using the Green Software Foundation Software Carbon Intensity (SCI) Specification v1.0 and Cloud Carbon Footprint (CCF) methodology, combined with GHG Protocol Scope 3 Category 3.3 guidance, applied to GitHub Actions runner metadata and regional electricity grid data. IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) 100-year global warming potential values are used where applicable. Actual energy consumption and emissions may differ from estimates due to factors including CPU utilisation variance, runner hardware variation, and grid carbon intensity uncertainty. Documented uncertainty is ±40–60% end-to-end; see the methodology appendix of any generated report for component-level uncertainty bounds.

ESG reports generated by EmitCI are based on these estimates. EmitCI does not warrant that ESG reports meet any specific regulatory, legal, or third-party audit standard, including but not limited to EU CSRD/ESRS E1, GHG Protocol, SEC climate disclosure requirements, or any other applicable framework. EmitCI reports are designed to support your data-gathering and drafting process — they do not replace qualified legal counsel, a sustainability professional, or an accredited third-party assurance provider. You are solely responsible for verifying the suitability of EmitCI outputs for your specific compliance, reporting, or disclosure obligations.

EmitCI is not liable for any decisions made, regulatory positions taken, penalties incurred, or losses suffered based on estimates or reports produced by the service.

You may cancel your subscription at any time via Settings → Billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period (monthly or annual) and no refund is issued for the unused portion.

EU and UK consumer right of withdrawal: if you are a consumer (an individual not acting in the course of a business) in the EU or UK, you have the right to withdraw from a subscription contract within 14 days of purchase without giving any reason, and to receive a full refund. However, if you expressly consent to the service beginning immediately during the withdrawal period and acknowledge that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal, the 14-day right does not apply once the service has commenced. By proceeding to checkout and ticking the relevant consent box, you confirm such consent. This does not affect your rights under Section 13 (Service discontinuation).

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, impose abusive load on our infrastructure, or fail to pay. We will provide notice where practicable, but reserves the right to terminate immediately for serious violations.

On termination, your data is deleted according to your plan's retention schedule — not immediately. You may continue to export data during any remaining retention window.

If EmitCI discontinues the service entirely, we will provide at least 30 days' advance notice by email to the billing address associated with your account and via a notice on our website.

During the notice period, you may export all your data and download any generated reports via Settings → Exports.

If you have an active paid subscription at the time of discontinuation, you will receive a prorated refund for the unused portion of your current billing period. Annual plan holders will receive a prorated refund for the remaining months of their annual term.

After the export window closes, all data will be permanently deleted from our servers.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, EmitCI's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months preceding the claim.

EmitCI is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages — in those cases the above limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
